As the old year draws to a close it is a symbolic time of new thoughts for a new year, and new actions to create new opportunities. But I always feel that it is important to reflect on the old year, and the many things that have happened. Some good, some challenging.
It is often the more challenging things that have stretched us out of our comfort zones and made us develop, albeit not always appreciating this at the time.
So as the embers of the old year slowly cool, do take a little time to think back – and if it helps, grab a diary and flick right back to January. Or perhaps look at the photographs you have taken over the past 12 months.
I did this earlier today and wow – what a year! And strangely some of the more mellow moments, that were truly wonderful, I had forgotten because of the more challenging times, or the odd ‘high’ day had initially sprung to mind. The real treasure was found in other areas….and a wonderful reminder of precious times. More often than not, shared with someone who, to use the old saying, came into our life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
All too soon a new dawn breaks – as in the picture – and the huge value, the massive return on the magical investment made in your own life, is not counted, is not remembered, is not cherished.
Even if you are reading this well into the new year just STOP……remember, perhaps smile, and if appropriate, let the people who mattered at that time know of the impact they made. A text, an email, a phone call, a streched out hand. Because if not now the moment will go, and with it the reinforcement of what really does matter.
And as in the picture, all too soon the light of the sun will be too bright for you to see the investment that you placed in your own priceless memory bank.
Happy New Year – let us make it a great one.
And you know where I am if you need someone to help, or share the journey to your own new horizon.
My best wishes,
Peter
