I was up in Scotland a few days ago attending meetings, taking time to catch up with friends and also see some of the scenery. Sadly for the first few days the weather was not at its’ best although this did not stop me enjoying my time. On the way home I took some time out and stayed overnight in a remote spot.
I arrived in the dark on a windy and rain swept night and was only too pleased to enjoy a hot bath and a welcome drink in front of a roaring log fire – just wonderful. Made all the more pleasant by a delightful young couple who were great company and very interesting to converse with. One was from America the other from Poland so we made an diverse trio from different parts of the world. We shared a love of wonderful places, exploring new horizons and judging by the late night good conversation too.
After a feast of a breakfast we headed off in the same direction. The weather had changed so remarkably that it was now bright with crystal clear visibility. The picture you can see was taken from the top of a hill on this crisp clear morning where our conversation continued as if we were long time friends, also enjoying a few minutes to take in the views. We then carried on our separate ways and on my drive I rarely saw another car for 2 hours.
Sometimes it is crucial to restore the perspective in our lives….the pace we live at increases with each year and I am sure will continue to speed up. So it is important to ‘stop and stare’ as the poem goes. If we don’t…….
- How often are conversations missed?
- New people ignored?
- The beauty of nature no longer relished?
- Our rushing seeming like progress?
Well on that day I valued the conversations with wonderfully interesting people and the time to stop, see and discover insights. So when did you last enjoy the passing moment and gain insights into yourself? I hope recently.
My best wishes,
Peter
