By Peter Johnson, on April 29th, 2014 | Comments are closed This is a saying that I am sure that you have heard before. I am on a programme at the moment where one of the exercises is to experience ‘walking in the other persons moccasins’, and an interesting exercise this is too. Perhaps one we should all do periodically to appreciate the other persons perspective. As an additional exercise, I decided to walk a mile in my own moccasins as an experiment.
I walked around a racecourse intent on using my five senses, and concentrating on what was happening in the moment as I walked.
It is amazing what I noticed. My mind was focusing on what was going on around me – and I was working

By Peter Johnson, on March 26th, 2014 | Comments are closed I have shown this picture to a number of people who have been rather amazed by the scene.
In a couple of cases there was concern that the plane was in trouble. I must admit when I initially caught sight of the image in the sky, I too had a hasty ‘double take’.
I was fortunate to have my camera and so could zoom in and see what was happening at closer quarters, and all was safe.
I took the picture a couple of months ago in the early evening, and the reason the vapour from the aeroplane’s engines is red, and not white, is because of the setting sun. The colour of the setting sun had

By Peter Johnson, on March 21st, 2014 | Comments are closed One of the things I love about the early Spring is the clarity of the light when we do have a clear sky.
There has been a significant chill in the air in the early morning which has created a damp and thick mist. Once the days have started to unfold, and the sun started to penetrate the mist, one can soon realise that a lovely day is in store. On this day I was so captured by the bright blue sky that I took a picture – the sky was just so blue with exceptional clarity. Perhaps made the more attractive by the grey days of winter that are still a recent memory.
As I looked

By Peter Johnson, on March 16th, 2014 | Comments are closed I was on my way to a meeting, stepping out and enjoying the walk in the fresh spring air. It was a wonderful clear day, and after what has seemed like a dull winter, it was lovely to have the sun shining so brightly. I am not normally too fretful if it is not always dry and sunny – I do spend a lot of time outdoors, so it is a fact that I will experience a variety of changeable weather here in England. Providing I am suitably dressed, I can just get on with it.
The change from the dull days to this wonderful bright one was very marked. It seems as if mother nature had

By Peter Johnson, on February 28th, 2014 | Comments are closed I had popped into town to purchase a few items I needed for a job I was completing, and was shocked to see the notices in the window of the shop I was visiting indicating they were closing down. This is a shop that has always provided a lovely welcome, advice, and a friendly helping hand. The people went out of their way to make sure that one went away happy. And now it was going.
It is sad that the lives of the staff were also going to change after the shop closed. I do hope that they gained good employment, in a business where they are now valued, and provide continued good service. I do

I have been speaking with a number of people from various parts of the world, who have seen the flood news on TV, and have been asking if I am okay. Also, many people who I have met at events outside the area have been asking too. This concern is well appreciated as so many people have suffered during past weeks.
Worcester, England is very familiar with the sudden expansion of the river that flows through the heart of this fine City.
As pervious articles have shown, it can be quite spectacular. This got me thinking about the markers that have been placed at the rear of the Cathedral, over many years. The picture you see

By Peter Johnson, on January 19th, 2014 | Comments are closed Well, the floods that have been troubling so many across Britain have made sure their presence was felt in Worcester too.
Flooding is not new to Worcester, although every time it happens it looks so spectacular as you can see from the picture. In past articles you will have seen the flooding of the racecourse too.
What you may not realise is, this is the rear of the world renown Worcester Cricket Club – according to many professional cricketeers, one of the best ground in the world. Well, it is quintessentially English with the splendid cathedral a picture perfect backdrop. A cathedral which has been there for over 1000 years.
The grounds staff at the Club are

By Peter Johnson, on January 6th, 2014 | Comments are closed With Christmas a fading memory and the New Year due to start it was a great opportunity to get some boots on my feet and go for a good stiff walk. Well that was the original plan but as the weather had been so rainy of late I decided that a gentle walk would probably more enjoyable.
In England we have experienced some significant rainfall recently, which had sadly made some people’s festivities a rather more trying time than they had planned. Many people had been left without power to cook their Christmas dinner, or heat their homes. Some sadly had also been flooded. Compared with many people around the world, what we had suffered here on

By Peter Johnson, on December 22nd, 2013 | Comments are closed When business leaders have been asked what they wish they had known 10 years earlier that would have made them more successful, the answer turns out not to be what most would expect the answer to be. The assumed answer is more business skills, knowledge on IT, leadership or management. The real answer is ‘more about themselves’. Interesting and revealing!
So as a leader, what can you do to learn more about yourself?
Well a significant amount of research has been undertaken into the understanding of self. The leading authority on this is Carl Gustaf Jung, the Swiss psychologist, who died over 50 years ago. His legacy is the very practical approach of his work, whilst he

By Peter Johnson, on December 15th, 2013 | Comments are closed What a wonderful day! Well that was my approach to the start of a lovely day I was going to have in London. I had been presented with an unexpected gift of time that you may have noticed is becoming a part of my schedule. The reason for this precious gift was a deferred workshop I was running for a valued client. They had encountered a few extra pressures on the lead up to the festive season, so it was beneficial for everyone concerned to reschedule into the New Year. This will be a great start to their year, and also a great start to mine, as I know I have a few more aspects of learning
