I took the picture you can see here standing in a similar position, on the bank of the River Severn in England, that I posted on 31 December 2010. The earlier picture appears to be black and white, even though it was taken in full colour. This was due to the severe cold in the winter and the river being completely frozen over (something I had never seen before). This later picture shows how the English spring is starting so well with wonderful hues of green bursting from the buds on the trees. The light has a freshness too with the sun casting a vibrancy of colour not seen in the earlier picture.
It is amazing how different things look even from the same position – it is the conditions that have changed, the season has changed, and perhaps I can see things now that I either didn’t, or could not see before.
I find happens so often when I take a new look at an old opportunity or an old problem. New eyes can create new images, new thoughts and new perspectives can abound. It also reminds me of the quotation from Heraclities, which goes something along the lines of:
“When a person enters a river for the second time it is neither the same river nor the same person.”
This reflection through words always makes me stop and think. How has the issue changed? How have I changed?
At the moment this is highly pertinent as I am developing a major new programme and revisiting much of my material which I am now appreciating with new eyes, new understanding and a new richness.
Perhaps there is something that you need to reflect on again:
- A business issue
- A personal issue
- A relationship issue
- …..or just taking time to look with a new perspective at things that you may have taken for granted.
Perhaps your river has changed. Perhaps you have changed too.
My best wishes,
Peter
