Longboat cafe

ILongboat Cafen our ever growing cafe culture it is usually a delight to make some time for a slow coffee. Or if the need is for a swift break in a busy day, a cafe always is a welcome sight.

I was out recently and started to think about heading back into ‘civilisation’ so I could hunt out a cafe – it was well past coffee time and I also hoped to combine an early bite of lunch too. I was just looking at the lock of the canal I was near when I noticed the longboat in the picture.

What a welcome sight. As you can see it was a dull day, also with a chill in the air, so the temptation was head onboard and get warm. There were some tables ‘on shore’ too, so it was lovely to enjoy one of the last few days of the year outside, and some relaxing time just stopping – away from a typical cafe.

While I was waiting for my coffee and bite to eat I caught up with a few texts, checked the odd email, looked at a few pictures I had taken a little earlier. It was lovely to tidy my mind, and at least keep part of the flow of communications that we are all subjected to in our modern lives, at bay.

It was also lovely to pass a casual comment with other people who were also out, catching the breeze and relaxing with their friends on this Sunday morning.

What did capture my imagination was how unusual this cafe is – it was certainly a talking point for the visitors to the city, and indeed for others who had not ventured here before, but who were local. It also had the odd regular too which is usually a good sign.

It also got me thinking about taking the opportunity to create a business, that may in concept be similar to other cafes, whilst in imagination is a wide step of the mark, and all the better for it. So what could other businesses do to step out from the crowd, to create a different style, and perhaps a different beat to their drum?

Now that got me thinking….well it did after I had completed my steaming cup of coffee and a delightful bacon sandwich.

My best wishes,

Peter
