What’s age got to do with it?

On 19 April 2013, it was the birthday of the oldest known living person in the world. He is Japanese and 116.

In spite of the freeing of legal restraints and the economic downturn most people are looking to retire from work in their 60s. If we can live another 50 years beyond our ‘normal’ retirement age perhaps we need to think anew as we will spend more time in retirement than in work.

This really got me thinking!

I have mentioned before that I am accredited in Insights Deeper Discovery and I have been reviewing the way this exciting, and in my opinion, life changing work can be integrated more fully with the clients I work with. It has been somewhat of a revelation to see the impact Deeper Discovery can have too for people of all ages.

I have always been delighted with the impact that Insights Discovery has, at an individual, team and business level. In a recent workshop I was running I could see the breakthroughs people were experiencing. Strikingly, as I grow older I still learn so much and this is the same for everyone who experiences Insights Discovery. A very successful gentleman was on a programme recently who is well qualified and well educated. He was experiencing new and visibly exciting learning – he is in his mid 60s with a career that is still developing, so if anyone says that this stuff is for the young I think they are talking waffle.

I ran an intensive 3-day programme towards the end of last year. My clients were in their mid 60s, keen to learn and take their already successful businesses to a new level.

The eldest client I have worked with and shared Insights Discovery was 76, a former leader of thousands of people, still working and still learning. Just fantastic.

My saxophone teacher is in his 70s too.

A close friend of mine has just published her latest book and now embarking on a speaking tour – in her 80s. And always keen to learn what I am doing with my clients, so she is up to date.

I recently read of the English man who had never driven before and passed his driving test at the age of 91.

A local business I always love visiting has a book-keeper, who, at 93, works 10 – 4, five days week; she used to work six days a week. I thought this was impressive till a walking friend of mine mentioned that he arrived in the car park at one of his clients, the same time as the HR Managers drove in for a full day at work…..and she was 100.

Now my 76 year-old client is looking decidedly youthful – I think I need to expand my boundaries!

If you are reading this blog you are one of the enlighten few who is still learning. Still looking for new opportunities. Still wanting to keep the ‘edge’.

If you have not experienced Insights Discovery – would now be good time to think about this?

I know it is highly unlikely you will have experienced Insights Deeper Discovery – I am still one of only a handful worldwide who is accredited to use this brilliant resource and run Profiles – do you want to take a next major step forward?

And if you are over 100, and you think I can make a difference, perhaps just pay for my travel expenses. If you are like the Japanese gentleman I mentioned at the start, you have many more productive years in front of you.

So what is stopping you? Perhaps you just need to click your mouse!

My best wishes,

Peter
